LIBRAENSEMBLE
The Libra ensemble is driven by a mission to help re-invigorate the classical music scene in Ireland by revolutionising how classical music performance is experienced, enjoyed and engaged with.
It achieves this with two ‘M’s – memory and movement.
All repertoire is memorised, allowing a much more direct connection with eachother, the music and the audience.
The second is movement. The players physically embody the music through movement - a process made possible by the memorisation. This movement is enhanced by levels of production (lighting, staging, dress etc.) more normally associated with theatre or dance than Classical music.
During the pilot stage the approach has prompted incredible levels of audience engagement.
The Libra Ensemble is directed by Diane Daly. She is one of Ireland's most sought after violinists with an international profile as solo, chamber and orchestral musician. She also directs the vibrant, innovative MA in Classical String performance at the University of Limerick.
Performance research combined with her playing career lead to the formation of the Libra Ensemble. A unique professional ensemble that uses memorisation and movement as a basis for creating dynamic and engaging performances of classical repertoire
